Hawaiian Floral Honey Mustard Recipe

Fruit mustard is a great condiment. I especially like the hot and sweet flavor. It adds pizzazz to a sandwich. It’s delicious in salad dressings and sauces such as honey mustard chicken. I’m always looking for specialty gourmet mustard’s and now I’ve got a great recipe to share that’s very simple to make at home.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mustard seed- white or yellow. Brown if you’d
    like very hot mustard.
  • 1/4 of any favorite dried fruit- I used kiwi (sulfite
    free)
  • 1/2 cup raw apple cider vinegar (with mother)
  • 1/2 cup of water (chlorine-free)
  • 1 tsp salt (non-iodized)
  • 1-2 Tbsp Steve’s Akaka Falls farm Hawaiian Floral
    Honey

Insructions

  1. Mix the mustard seed, dried fruit, vinegar, and water in a glass jar. Leave everything to soak on the counter for 24 hours.
  2. After soaking, stir in the salt. Then grind the mustard seeds and dried fruit into a smooth paste using an immersion blender or a food processor. You may need to add more water depending on the type of fruit used. Some types of dried fruit absorb more liquid than others.
  3. Store the mustard in the fridge for at least a week before serving to allow the flavors to blend and the mustard seeds to mellow. At that point -Stir in 1-2 Tbsp of Steve’s Akaka Falls Hawaiian Floral Honey depending how sweet you like your mustard.
